Garage Heaters
I've built my whole garage gym around advice on this forum. I'm adding a heater this year. Do I want to go gas(propane) or electric? I have about 450 square feet I think? As always, thanks

Re: Garage Heaters
I had a garage gym about that same size and I got a Kerosene Heater. People call them the R2D2 since they look like R2D2. Worked great and would pretty quickly get the temp up 20 or 25 degrees.

Propane will make your walls drip with condensation. My neighbor has a kerosene heater he's gonna hook me up with to try out.

Re: Garage Heaters
I have a heater attachment that attaches to the top of my propane tank. I've used it extensively and usually have to turn it off because it gets too warm. My garage is a two car garage as well.

Re: Garage Heaters
You guys never notice the off gases that come with propane or kerosene. I had a gas style heater in my garage for one day and noticed the off gases. I have an electric unit heater. I was looking at putting in a properly vented gas heater but it was too much money. Who knows maybe another time. I would go electric but again we have the cheapest power prices in North America where I live.

Re: Garage Heaters
The other night I went and bought an electric heater for about $150. I took it back the next morning. No lie, there was one of those shopping carts by the returns counter filled with returned electric heaters.
I then went down the street and bought a propane heater for $100 that actually worked. Electric may work to pick up some slack from a bum heater indoors, but there is no way it'll bring the temperature of a cold garage up to anything comfortable. Go gas! |

Re: Garage Heaters
Like I said I have a proper 5KW electric heater, I should have about a 10-15KW one, and I may buy another. The fumes from the gas about killed me. And FYI it is already been about -10C here this here for a week and I am still training in shorts ! It will top out at -35 to -40C and I will train in the garage.
The only other way around it is to install a proper gas heater that is vented. |

Re: Garage Heaters
Yeah there is no way to really cheat a good electric heater when it is really cold.
If you do go gas you really need to vent it. Don't risk your health/life. The few $$ spent to set it up right is worth it in the long run (vs the alternative of death/sickness) |
