Pressing Snatch Balance

Some athletes and myself will be working on the Pressing Snatch Balance skill transfer drill tomorrow.

Im curious, as we increase weight on the bar does the speed of the motion pressing yourself under the bar increase or does it stay the same?

With the Olympic bar i was always taught to slowly press yourself under the bar but if I'm aiming to reach a 1RM on it does it still remain a slow movement of motion under the bar? Or is my goal now to get under it as quickly as possible?

I know that the heaving snatch balance and snatch balance are quick movements but was unsure about pressing snatch balance.

Re: Pressing Snatch Balance

Pressing snatch balance is not really something I would do for any sort of max. Adding more and more weight doesn't get you more skill. It will test your shoulder strength. If you desire this for some reason look up sotts press on You Tube. Those suckers are tough.

Heaving snatch balance and snatch balance do transfer directly to the snatch and can be done for increasing weight.

Re: Pressing Snatch Balance

Brendan's right; pressing snatch balance is just a warm-up exercise, more than anything else. The snatch balance and heaving snatch balance can be done for max effort, because it teaches you to receive larger loads.
