Backwards Roll on Rings ( Back Kip on rings) Crossfit Gymnastics

Hey Gang, Wanted to make special mention of Dusty Hyland for making a quick video/tutorial for a Backwards Roll on Rings.

He explains some requirements and go through some skill progressions for the movement.

It is a great ring strengthening skill to have.

Let me know what you think of the video, comment here or on the Crossfitgymnastics web site.

Umm, back kip is a skill in the FIG COP and is not a backward roll/felge. I'm surprised Dusty called it this since he was a gymnast.

Where is the "kip" in the movement? I guess you could swing in a hang then use the swing into the roll.

"Kip" is just a term friendly to Crossfitters I guess. Either way I will be trying this out tomorrow night!

It's a stupid term and yet another push by them to make everything CrossFit understandable. Just like how they have to reiterate, tight midline, blah-blah-blah for whatever basic ****ing move they are trying to do.

JHC, duh.

Of course if you use a swing into the roll/felge, it used to be called a "birdie-up" or felge to support from swing, etc.

Yes, but this doesn't mean we should use the wrong term for a movement. A kip is a staged movement generating momentum with the legs, capturing it with the upper body. Kipping pull up, kip to support on rings, etc. A backward roll to support is just that. A reverse kip is something else. Let's try to keep our terminology correct, otherwise folks looking at CF from other sports/activities will either be confused, or thing that CFers don't know what they are talking about.

I always meant to work on backwards roll to support...that lean while you're rolling puts too much stress on my right shoulder though from the old impingement/biceps tendon problems I had though. Even forward rolls on rings gets to me...Getting better though.

If you keep on top of the roll it should be fine for the shoulder, but learning it with a shoulder issue is indeed tough.
