Didn't make sense to me either...
I've heard a few different stories about this. At one point Broz said they wouldn't compete domestically because the competition was so weak it wasn't worth it. In that interview he did indicate that they would eventually be out on the international circuit though. Some people are speculating they won't compete because they would fail drug tests although considering the age of his lifters, I'm not sure they're using.

If you can't compete because you'd fail drug tests, what was the point of taking the drugs in the first place? I can see wanting to be wicked strong for its own sake, whether you compete or not, but I can't see using artificial means to get there unless you think the competitive advantage is worth the risks.

Re: 19 year old American snatches 200kg, clean 230kg etc.

There's an interview with Coach Broz on Youtube and he also has a thread on bodybuilding.com's weightlifting forum. I believe Jesse is correct in that Broz said he is waiting for a meaningful competition which has caused people to speculate that it's a drug testing issue. I'm sure Coach Broz knows what Pat will have to do to qualify for the 2012 American team and we will see him competing soon, as he has stated that gold at 2012 is Pat's goal, as well as his lifetime goal of totalling 500kg (227.5kg/272.5kg I think, aka 500/600 pounds in the snatch and C+J). Of course, drug testing will occur during this process, no way around it. At his current level he would obviously dominate any junior in the U.S. and world. Also my original post was wrong, the snatch WR since they revised the weight classes is 213kg.

From what I heard, Pat is looking to compete at Nationals this year, that's the last thing I heard from Broz. He said Pat was saving his money up for a "meaningful" meet because Pat is broke out of his mind because all he does is eat, sleep, and train, no work, no school.

I'm barely into the 400s on my squat and looking at the bar bowing in the rack is sort of funny to me, and I feel a slight bounce at the top of the lift. I can only guess what it feels like to have the bar and the weights flop around at the weight he's working at...

"Why would he want to spend all that money for travel expenses, etc., just for a medal?"

Well, for one thing, at that level you'll get drug tested using WADA standards for free.

Then there's that whole "get to go the the Olympics" thing.

Just saying.

From the horse's mouth via BB.com:

"He will be going to a meet sometime this year. Not quite sure which..."

It is perfectly fine to give an opinion as to what John's plan is for Pat however, make sure you state it as as your opinion and not as fact!
There is a plan. He will be competing this year. This much IS a fact!
