I'm a beginner and would like to know what is the difference between the two and which one do we do for oly lifts and individual deadlift excercises?

Traditional deadlifts start from the floor; Romainian deadlifts start from the hang position and do not go much below the knee. Romainian deadlifts also do not have much knee bend, mostly it is a hip movement with a slightly unlocked knee.

As Coach Burgener described them to me, the Romanians, like Lincoln says, are basically just the transition from the hang position to the double-knee bend position.
BUT, it kind of depends on why you're asking because it's super common for people to incorrectly use Romanian Deadlift to describe a high-hip, nearly-straight-leg deadlift (from floor to full extension). So for the WODs, standard deadlifts are the ones to go with. Burgener throws Romanians into his training from time to time along with stantard deads, high pulls, etc. |
