i think the "school of fitness" approach is excellent.

one of the benefits of marketing yourself this way is that it makes you more like a dojo than a gym. there is an instructor, who teaches techniques to people of various levels of skill and experience. everyone gets personal attention. everyone is tested. you're there to learn something and get better, not just look good in your uniform. and you get what you pay for.

...as opposed to a gym, where everyone works out separately, by themself, you're there to see and be seen, and maybe work up a sweat on the way -- but not to really work hard. and you go where dues are cheap.
