Of course one can exercise too much. I love how him running 80 miles a week was too much, but 70 is "more manageable".

hhmm, I read the article.

It appears to me that the article seems to emphasize that overtraining is more of an overuse issue meaning that one is doing low intensity exercise for long periods of time.

Overtraining is a noted phenomenon that comes in many flavors. Siff's Facts and Fallacies has a great article on two kinds of overtraining and their effects.
