Self-myofacial release

Saw a link to this posted on another forum and thought lots of folks here would be interested. It's a free, online, comprehensive guide to the why, how, where, and with what questions regarding self-myofacial release techniques. Definitely a worthwhile reference.

Re: Self-myofacial release

thanks for the post

looking forward to using some of these new found techniques. SMR ROCKS!

i had some limited info from the net. this is much more exhaustive. ive been trying to figure out how to "roll" parts of my shoulder. found answer "ball"!

i have a large deep spot on trap. that i cant get to unless at gym standing underneath a bar and pressing trap. into it. i get odd looks from people, like a bear scratching his back on a tree. i'd like to work this spot at home, tried a stick but cant find appropriate fulcrum at home.

any suggestions?

Lou, I do have a suggestion. Once in a while, I get a spot on my right trap where it meets my neck. I get a lacrosse ball (or other ball), I bend at a 90degree angle, push my head towards a wall, then bend my head down so my trap/neck is pressing against the ball-wall. If I stand at the corner of the wall, I can dig the trap-shoulder by rolling it a bit by putting pressure against the wall. It looks weird and feels odd. Once in a while, if I'm not careful, the ball can slip off the corner. People say to keep the ball in a light sock so you can hold it in your other hand. This move is a contortion move but it's easily do-able and I promise you'll be able to put serious pressure on those hard to reach spots. Good luck.

And Patrick, thanks for posting that PDF. Definitely worth saving.

Definitely worth saving, and I should point out that the link was posted elsewhere by Steven Low, so of course I knew it was worth saving.
