Pull up bar wrap?

I've got the new (well used) squat rack with the 7/8th" pullup bar on top. I'm having a welder buddy raise it 6 inches and replace with a 1.25" bar.

I also want to wrap it with something for grip. The iron pipe gets slippery with sweat. I want to avoid a chalk covered garage if I can.

Any advice on tape to use? I tried sport tape on the old power rack, and the glue from that made it really sticky.

Thanks.

Re: Pull up bar wrap?

You might try bicycle handlebar tape. We wrapped a pullup bar with some last week and it feels great. Got it at a bike shop.

Re: Pull up bar wrap?

I use athletic tape. Not sure about the kind you're using, but mine isn't sticky at all. Well, unless you wrap it backwards, I suppose, but then it wouldn't really stay on and all the other people would think you're using wraps because of all the tape stuck to your hands and then you'd be tarred and feathered and carried in a cart by the Crossfitters o' Marble'ead.

Ouch, considering that comment, it's fortunate that the English lit majors don't know where I live.

We also wrapped some of our bars with handlebar tape. It works great. Just be sure to stretch it nice and tight, as it does add some thickness to the bar.

Our tape gets sticky too...just wait it out, takes some usage of the bar for it to go away....annoying i know, but you'll just have to gut through it hah.

I like using the grip tape used for tennis rackets. Its designed to handle sweat and it wont get sticky. Cost just a few bucks at any sporting goods store
