Did he really say that?

So I was just watching a Strongman competition on tv. They were doing the deadlift with an axle for a total weight of 705lbs. Very impressive to see guys bust out five and six reps with that amount of weight.

Anyway, the announcer was talking about the difficulty of the lift at that weight and said(Direct quote) "Some athletes say its like picking up a dead weight straight off the ground."

It's "like" picking up a dead weight? Isn't that exactly what it is?

Some athletes say its like picking up a dead weight straight off the ground...

The rest have difficulty stringing words together into coherent sentences.

What are you talking about? Good deadlifters don't "pick up" the weight. They just scream at it until it gets scared and goes up on its own. Until that sports announcer realizes this, he will be stuck with a measly deadlift.

The reason the world record deadlifts are made by big, burly guys isn't because they're strong - it's because they're intimidating.

I thought only Greg Amundson had that ability.

I prefer to think of it this way-good deadlifters don't lift the bar, they simply move the earth.
