One of my favourite local workouts involves a local tourist attraction. The Temagami Fire Tower sits atop Caribou Mountain, just east of town. It is 100' high, with 156 steps spiralling up the inside to the top. Recently I've started running the 2 or so miles to the tower, then racing to the top. My times have been like this:
April 25 56 sec.
May 24 52 sec.
June 2 44 sec.
June 9 39 sec.
Does anyone else have a similar locale to workout at? Any ideas on how I can continue to challenge myself with this? I'm thinking maybe:
3 rounds for time:
run up, 20 pushups, run down, 20 pullups
10 tower climbs for time
75 lb. weighted vest tower climb for time
To take a virtual tour of the fire tower, go here (wfs). Click on the steps to continue your virtual climb:
Anyone driving up Highway 11 (the Trans Canada Northern Ontario route) north of North Bay is welcome to drop me a note and go for a climb! Can't beat the view from the top!
