I just received an email from Concept 2 about this problem, and I thought I'd share it here.
Apparently there's a fatigue failure issue affecting the rower's box frame right near the foot stretcher. This applies to all Model D and Model E rowers shipped from August 1, 2006 through April 17, 2007. Failure results in a fatique crack. Concept 2 has developed a structural reinforcement kit that they are shipping free to all customers. This is the same kit that's being applied to all new rowers, and it's been pretty thoroughly tested and shown to prevent the fatigue cracking problem. They estimate a 30 minute retrofit job in the field. Full details of the issue are here: http://www.concept2.com/notice After reading through the comprehensive notice pages, I called and ordered my reinforcement kit. As always the customer support offered by Concept 2 was exemplary. A great company and a great product. |
