Re: legality of spray-painting running marks

you mean on the street or sidewalk ??

My guess is illegal - however I doubt anyone would really question it or ***** about it, unless it was in a residential area. If you don't make it too "loud" people won't even notice.

Streets are city, county, municipal property, state or federal property. So, it would be considered vandalism.

HOWEVER, if its a couple of dashes, maybe "400" or "800" written, I'd be shocked if you'd have a problem. Worst case is they tell you to remove it, and not to do it again. But first you'd need someone to complain about it.

Why not a small, discreet spray-paint tag at the edge of the street or sidewalk, accompanied by a large and obvious (multi-colored?) chalk marking on the day of the WOD/event that will wash away with the first rain.

Re: legality of spray-painting running marks

we sprayed, but currently in the area our box is in, you would worry about stepping in much less desirable things than dried up spray paint.

Re: legality of spray-painting running marks

I just spray painted small dots where I wanted them, noone will notice and on the days of sprints we just put a kettlebell on each dot which is easier to see then the chalk.

Same here.

We had an event last year where I spray painted two long lines at either end of the course, and despite my worry within 2 months the rain had almost completely erased them.

I used Tremclad line marking paint from Home Depot.

Re: legality of spray-painting running marks

I would think if you kept it small and subtle, no one would even notice. But that doesn't mean it's legal or OK, just less likely you'd get caught.
