Rower Warning Malfunction!!!

Just wanted to warn anyone or any CrossFit affiliates that purchased Concept 2 Rowers from Sept. 2006 to April 2007 to check the center metal frame unit for any cracks or wear and tear. These models have a metal defect and will break near the foot plate. Mine just broke today and I called Conept 2 to have a new unit shipped out to me for FREE. Check you serial number on the bottom of the machine. The first 6 digits is the date the model was produced. If it starts with 090106 - 040107 you should contact Concept 2 for a new unit.

Here are the pictures of the damage and what to look for:

Re: Rower Warning Malfunction!!!

This was a known possiblility by C2, and C2 sent out a repair/bracing kit to all those affected(at least they did to me).

Wow, That also looks like a pretty thick gauge metal also. It must be put through alot of stress.

For some reason I never got the notice or the braces. Oh well, I get a new rower now. Can't really complain too much.

Re: Rower Warning Malfunction!!!

Hey Guys, This is Greg from Concept2. I just wanted to answer some of the questions about the frame issue. There was a issue with the metal frame on rowers made between Aug 1st 2006 and April 2007. We caught the issue and sent out notifications to everyone that purchased a rower directly from us within the effected dates. We actually sent out three emails and letters as well as a reinforcement kits for free to everyone who purchased them from us. The problem is some people never put them on or sold the rower to someone else and never told them about the problem. Most of you know that we make these rowers to last a lifetime and will stand behind anything we make. If you have one of these problems or need a reinforcement kit just call us. Also check out the links I am adding to this post that address this.

All of us here at Concept2 have tons of respect for the CrossFit community and many of us are CrossFitters ourselves. A lot of you have probably found that in typical CF fashion that we take care of anyone “in the family” with more of a friendship type dealing rather than one of just business. If you are looking to buy one of our Model D or E rowers used look at the serial number that is on the back of the flywheel cover under the machine. If the kit is not on it this may be a good way to negotiate a better price and then call us for the reinforcement kit. If there are still any questions or you just want to talk about it more feel free to call me directly. Just don’t use this as an excuse to not throw down on the rower. Give it hell that is why we made it. We want the best and the strongest to feel there physical limitations and the rower is perfect for that! Wow that sounded pretty masochistic. That could be out new ad campaign Concept2 the best Damn torture machine on the market. (I don’t think I will get that through marketing) Take care and see you at the Games. - Greg
