Good morning,

My name is Susie, and I'm an FFFL: Fifty-two-year-old Formerly Fat Lady.

Three years ago, I weighed about 230 lbs. on my 5'7" frame. I couldn't do a whole sinkful of dishes because it hurt my back, hips, and knees too much to stand that long.

I took off some weight through diet, then 18 months ago, joined a gym and started spin classes, yoga, and weight-lifting with a wonderful personal trainer.

Today, I weigh 145 lbs. and I can pretty easily cycle 50 miles or run 5 miles.

A few weeks ago, I told my trainer I needed to bump up the intensity of my workouts. I felt I needed to take a leap as life-altering as when I first sat on a spin bike.

Be careful what you wish for, eh? *wink*

My trainer, who is in the process of creating a Crossfit affliate at our gym, started doing Crossfit workouts with me.

It's just what I needed, and I would never have known how to describe this, 'cause it would never occur to me to actually DO these things. I just love the challenge. Of course, we have to scale things considerably---I've never done a pullup in my life and never expected to try to do them in my fifties---but it's wonderful to have lofty goals.

I've been reading these posts for a few weeks, and I've found the advice of the seasoned Crossfit athletes very, very helpful; especially as to how to scale workouts and the principles of functional fitness. So thank you for sharing your experience with the newbies. I know I really appreciate it!

Susie

Welcome Susie. It's always nice to see new members join up. This really is a great program and it has and still helps me immensely as an average Joe and as a VFF(Volunteer Firefighter).
