Grace today. No, not a bikini testimonial.

Grace Rx'd

April 1, 2010 = 7:26.

February 12, 2010 = 8:54

December 26, 2009 = 11:06

I'm about to start SS, and I'm using Grace as a benchmark because well...she's my favorite. So, I did her today and took 88 seconds off my time from 7 weeks ago and 3:40 off my time from 3 months ago.

I was halfway at 2:00, and then I screwed myself. My legs got tired, and I couldn't get under the bar. I had four missed jerks. Lots of time wasted. My brain was screaming "Get under the damn bar!" but my legs were yelling "We are not interested in redipping right now!" Still, I'm pretty happy. I'm going sub 6:00 after 6 weeks of SS. Period.

As I was driving home, I realized it was April 1. This is the one year anniversary of me getting off my @ss, kicking all my excuses to the curb, and becoming an athlete again. So, I changed my avatar in honor of that...because this pic was taken one year ago today.

Thanks to everyone who's been along for the ride so far.

No, that remains to be seen. I am only trusting myself to stay away from WODs and my affiliate for 6 weeks. This is going to be a huge deal. I'm going to give it 6 weeks and then reevaluate...because I may be crazy by then. My affiliate is my second family, and I'll be doing SS from home.

Frankly, I think that I am going to see insane strength gains, and those results aren't going to push me to dump SS after 6 weeks. Only time will tell...

But, regardless, I'm going to redo Grace in 6 weeks.

Tam -

I very frequently use your April 09 vs. November 09 comparison as a testimonial for the benefits of Crossfit and an effective diet. That comparison is totally amplified now that it has been a year. Fantastic stuff.

Congratulations on such amazing results, and thanks for being such an inspiration to others.

Thank you, Mark. Haha, I never thought I would let anyone see that first pic. Who knew?

8/7/09

I went back and found my first Grace.

August 7, 2009 with 48 lbs = 5:10

Half the Rx'd weight. On August 7, 2009, I didn't believe I would ever be able to do any WOD Rx'd.

Well, for whatever it's worth...as harsh as it may have been to take and post it publicly, your "before" pic makes me wish I had taken one back in late October when I got started. After five months, I have made some pretty significant changes as well, but I don't have a "before" to compare with. Perhaps this weekend I'll take a 5-month pic so that I'll at least have something to compare with after a year.

I highly approve of self-pics for any reason .

Re: Grace today. No, not a bikini testimonial.

Nice Job.

I workout with a friend 3 days a week and he picks the wods. I'm trying to do a version of SS at the same time. It's very difficult at times but it's also kinda fun-ish and keeps me guessing. It's basically become eat a ton, drink a ton of milk, do an SS workout as long as I feel my ability won't be hampered by the previous days wod. And if the previous days wod had heavy squats/thrusters/front squats, etc. then I skip my SS workout and just eat and rest. If he picks something with heavy squats right after I just PR'd, I just have to man the up and do it.

I know I won't have the gains as if I was doing SS by itself. My jumps are more like 5-7lbs instead of 10lbs. But it does seem to be working since I've added 20lbs to my 5 rep max on squats and 15lbs on shoulder press despite getting a cold from hell for a month in the middle of it. I'm also not gaining weight near as quickly and not losing my metcon as quickly.

I say all that to say that it probably is possible to do both if you can manage your expectations...affiliate tuesday thursday SS Sunday,Wednesday,Friday or just 2 days of SS. I know it's not SS then, but you do get to eat a lot, recover fast, and feel great!

Great before and after pics! Very inspirational.

Clearly you've demonstrated that.

I'll probably take a 5-month pic this weekend. Gotta decide first if I'm gonna shave chest and/or back. I'm a pretty hairy dude. This sweater that I carry around with me is covering much of the change that I've made.
