Re: First official dead-hang pull-up

Congratulations!!!

I am helping my wife, she's started out very weak (even knee-pushups were hard!) but she's getting there. Her weight helps her in this BW movements (103lbs or so), we're progressing on pushups by using a foam roller now a bit below her knees, which we will be moving further away everytime she reachs a number of reps. Her pullup negatives used to look like she wasn't even trying!! Really. So I had her do some dumbell rowing for some strength in related movements.. now she can do slow negatives! Quite slow! And sometimes I help by pushing her up so she works in the positive part too. I wonder if it's possible that a person can do a pullup before a pushup!?!? Hopefully eventually she'll do both. I think a woman that can do a deadhang pullup should be proud, what percentage of women can do them? Even amongst gym-goers?

Re: First official dead-hang pull-up

From the people I've worked with, they always seem to say they'll never be able to do a pull up or a push up. Yet I always prove them wrong. It's amazing how fast you can be progress, when you actually work hard, from not even being able to dead-hang to performing one, to performing 10. When you give it everything and then some more, you continue to surprise yourself. Today I actually did a full 360 degree roll over the bar, it was actually an accident and wasnt quite sure what happened...continuing to surprise...

Congrats on the deadhand pullup!

Oh, sure. I'll just ask my assistant to follow me into the girl's locker room. With a video camera. I'm sure that won't be at all weird for either of us.

Haha If you have an explanation for a kipping pull-up accident in the bathroom, you must have one for the camera too !

Congratulations on the pull-up

Re: First official dead-hang pull-up

Congrats on the dead-hang

Get comfortable on those and then if you really want to see the numbers go higher, definitely do what most others are suggesting by figuring out how to kip. Kipping will increase your dead-hangs as well over time.

Congrats Melisa! Isn't it an awesome feeling of accomplishment? My story is similar - got a kind of chin-up on Monday, but my boyfriend said i looked like my legs were propellers on a helicopter trying to take off! So i didn't count it. I tried again yesterday (parallel grip) and got 4 singles! Then I did 2 chin-ups this morning with only mini helicopter legs! This is my 40th birthday gift to myself! I've been working them hard since December.

Yup...sure is possible...it's me! My goal was to have a dead-hang and manly push-up by my 40th birthday (later this week). I got the dead-hang, but i'm a few inches short of the bottom of the push-up. GTG on the push-ups hurt my shoulders so i figured i had to pick one or the other to work on a time. I gave up on them a few weeks ago figuring that at least i'd make 1/2 my goal. But, maybe later this month i'll get a late birthday present!
