1st Competition???

My buddy and I are thinking about doing this deadlift and bench press competition. Neither of us has ever done one and are mainly just looking to do it for fun and get some experience. It is on April 16th. We are going to continue crossfitting like we have been for ~ 4 months, but we are also looking to add in some DL and BP practice.

The main question is what do people think would be the best way to train? Should we do strength days but also mix in some days with more reps? We are both ~ 160 right now, so will be dropping a few pounds to get to lightweight and have a chance for a trophy Thanks for any help you can give, we are noobs when it comes to this stuff!

Re: 1st Competition???

If you want to compete, drop the endurence WODs,they won't help you.
Go find some PL competitors and ask their advice.
Try the Power and Bulk message board, or somewhere else, maybe goheavy's PL board.
If you're gonna compete, don't half-*** it.

Re: 1st Competition???

Well, I am assuming it is 1RM for each, will need to get more details. I'd say it is more for fun/to say we did it, rather than to compete. I'm sure when we show up it will be a deer in the headlights for us. Not sure why there isn't a squat though.

Re: 1st Competition???

Push and Pull comps are common enough, but I think the squat sould be left in!
You should probably DL one day a week and Bench one day a week at the very least. Since you have no experience use linear progression and stay in the 3-5 rep range in your training.
