AWESOME progress Gina. Just remember that the beauty and best results come with the rest and recovery! Unfortunately I wasnt wise to listen to that advise myself and had to learn the hard way!!

My PT who is xtreme fitness minded (former JuJitsu/BB), feels it was overuse injury! Had me cut back a lot for a while and now easing back in but trying to do more strength than metcon. Was advised same by Dr. G--espec as a woman my age and in wintertime!

Thanks for asking!

Saying hi in your log!

Thanks for the visit to mine, and don't worry, I will make sure to be safe as my back heals!

Best way to fight being sick is to workout. Why? Gets the old core temp up and kills those bugs!

Good job on the Birthday Challenge, Gina! I'm sure you would have hit 20 with a good kip.

Get well soon! Otherwise I won't have any competition for the next Filthy Fifty.

Re: Gina Johnson's Log

Well, got through teaching my first 2 Bootcamp classes today! Went pretty well. I was nervous as hell though but I don't think anyone could tell. I'm back in action w/ a WOD tomorrow even though I STILL don't feel 100% . But George says I should still work out so dammit, I will! Can't wait to see what the WOD will be. I still don't count my bootcamp classes as a workout even though I'm actually doing 95% of the class. Still nothing compares to a full out cf WOD!

Also did Bootcamp ab routine w/ 1 client today

Working out depresses your immune system though because you tear up your muscles and your immune system has to devote time and energy to clean up the mess.

Best stuff, IMO, is contrast showers or ice bath. Not for everyone though, lol. Basically driving up your core tempterature without the muscles being used.

edit: sorry, I'm also going to crosspost from George's thread becase it's important:

Yeah, exercise DOES boost immune function, but that's AFTER the body has recovered from the exercise ESPECIALLY high intensity exercise.

http://www.vhl.org/newsletter/vhl2001/01aiphys.htm
http://www.wellnessletter.com/html/f...6Immunity.html

Here's a quote from the second:
Quote:
High intensity exercise is also associated with muscle cell damage and inflammation. The immune system is involved with tissue repair. It is theorized that while the immune cells are busy with the repair process, host protection may suffer. There appears to be a window of opportunity for infection during recovery from high-intensity exercise. Consequently, rest, good nutrition and hydration are recommended after bouts of vigorous exercise to allow the body to recover, and moderate exercise may be the better choice for enhancing health and well-being.
