Re: Crossfit Open 2016

HQ hits Bridges with a 15% penalty reducing his score to 280.

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

Mat Fraser's pace did not let up. That was impressive!

I think Ben Smith did 15 thrusters on the round of 18 and thought he was done. He dropped the bar, his judge made a comment, and he picked up the bar to do three more thrusters.

I think this was a very smart call by HQ. It would seem too harsh to disqualify the workout as a whole and keep Bridges out of Regionals, especially if someone at HQ inappropriately "accepted" an early submission when they shouldn't have done so as stated in the announcement. But on the other hand failure to take action could be interpreted as condoning what was seen--which could prove disastrous if you start to see athletes and affiliates believing the standards don't really have to be strictly enforced. Those No Bro Reps videos would have needed to be qualified to state "unless you are an elite athlete."

I like the decision and think it is a good call in a tough situation.

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

No one is touching his time from what I saw 7:15

I think JB has this in the bag, and likely Sam Briggs on the ladies side.

I still think the penalty is silly.

Watching Castro "bambi" leg through 16.5 last night was hilarious. He looked like he was fighting with everything he could to keep moving. Good on him for doing it in front of everyone at the Open announcement.

Re: Crossfit Open 2016

I am confused by the 15 percent penalty that JB got on 16.4. So 100 bad reps are worth 85 good reps? I'd think the just thing to do is to count the number of good DLs that JB did instead and have that, up to 55, as his score, and if that came to 55, then plus the number of reps done (wall-balls + rowing) after the 55 *good* deadlifts. As he didn't do 55 good deadlifts in the 1st round JB's score would be at most 55 plus however many wall-balls and rowing calories he did in the *second* round. Sends a message that movement standards are important.

This sort of thing that was done does give ammunition to the people who say CF is not a sport.
