Who are you pulling for in the 09 Games?

The more I read and watch videos on the Games site the more excited I am, and the more impressed I am with the breadth of amazing athletes we have in our community, but if you had to put your money on one man and one woman who would it be?

Secondarily, besides who do you think will win who are you really hoping crushes this years WODs?

Re: Who are you pulling for in the 09 Games?

I'd like Mikko Salo, to win, just because he's one of our european representatives, and he is a monster!!

I think I'd find it hard to bet against Josh Everett winning, 3rd in '07, 2nd in '08, 1st in '09???

I'm not too sure on the ladies front, I think maybe Gillian Mounsey will win. I think she was fairly new to crossfit last year, and she placed top 3, so I guess she'd be my pick.

Men... shrug. Josh Everett winning would be cool, but him winning would only show that he's a phenomenal athlete because he really doesn't train CF.

I'd like to see an affiliate post up 1-2-3 or a bunch of people in the top 10... would really show good programming on their part.

As far as women gonna have to go with Christy Phillips (1st in mid-atlantic)... as she is the only one I know personally.

Of course I'll be pulling for all the little guys: Speal, Bionic, Russell Berger, Ricky Frausto, Drew MacKenzie. And Geoff Tudisco because he's the only competitor I've actually met.

I too would love to see Everett win, you know, the three dimensional model and all.

But I'll also be rooting for Brad Posnanski for the same reason. He's 37!

I'm putting the chips down on Chris Spealler and Gillian.

It would be really cool to see Pat Sherwood get up there in the rankings his performance at the last WOD of the Mid Atlantic qualifiers was brilliant.

Maggie from the Mid Atlantic, or Jenni Orr from the Dirty South are my picks for two females I hope do especially well.

I would like to see a sudden death match up of Lauren Plumey and Crystal McReynolds and Jolie Gentry. I vote for the final event to be Mud Wrestling!!!

Being European, I'll second the vote for Mikko Salo. No disrespect to the other qualifiers from Europe, but that guy appears to be on a completely different level. His stats are insane...

Re: Who are you pulling for in the 09 Games?

Ooooo that's a tough one!!

If we were playing a sports lottery I would have to put money on both OPT and Speal. Both disappointed with their results last year and wanting more. Speal is ready for anything this year... this dude wants it BAD!!! And tough to say what "shape" OPT will be in physically after only finding out he'll be competing a week and a 1/2 ago. But the guy is smart and attacks every workout at full speed.

Females... this category will be crazy intense. So many new competitors and the increase in popularity in competing for the chicks will be interesting. I'm rooting for Gillian Mounsey but I'm guessing Breanne F and Joy Nguyen will be strong forces as well.
