Maybe I'm over-reading, but Rick is the key programmer for Westside 4 Athletes. So I'd pay attention to what Rick has been saying. Chris is helping out too. Both of them have been helping Louie run Westside Powerlifting Certs.

Hmmmm, Somehow I dont think Rick is some guy sitting in his mums basement making up Cr*p about how to get strong.

I think the main videos us Crossfitters need is how to implement Assistance exercises, and how to do them how Westside teaches them.

Most of us can Deadlift, Back Squat, Press and Bench ok, but I am assuming alot of us would stuggle in how to execute as well as knowing how to program the use of the assistance exercises.

Re: Westside etc. - please read

Quick question for Chris, I was watching a few Westside squat videos and I know you guys squat with a very wide stance with a wide hand position. I was wondering:

1. When I squat with a narrow grip (LBBS, with a conventional stance) I feel like i am pulling the bar into my back, yet when I go wide grip I nolonger feel as secure, as I loose the pulling in, as well as some of that nice shelf as a result of my scapulars no longer being as tight. Any advice? Probs stop being a ***** and get used to it

2. Until my annoying Patella tendonitis goes away Ricks advice is to box squat, which I will be doing, does it work as well with a conventional stance as with a wide stance?

3. When back to normal LBBS can you squat with a wide grip but conventional stance?

Cheers

Re: Westside etc. - please read

The wide grip you see with Westside squatters is due to overall size and tight shoulders due to years of very heavy bench work. You can certainly narrow your grip and that can be a good thing. In fact, I think Louie had one of his guys move his hands in a bit at the last meet because he was getting rounded over with 1,100+ lbs. Of course, this narrower grip was still quite wide.

The wide stance is something Louie very much believes in as he feels it better activates the hips and hammies and builds the quads just as well as a narrower stance. Nutshell, it is a more powerful stance.

Chris,

Super wide stance even when squatting completely raw? I've tried it and it feels as though I'm a wishbone post thanksgiving dinner.
