Crossfit and MMA

I understand alot of crossfitters are also Martial Artists, I love the crossfit workouts and was wondering how I fit them in with my Martial Arts training and how do others do this.
I was thinking of going to the gym during my lunch break and completing a WOD and training at night my Martial Arts, or the days I dont train Martial Arts just doing the WOD at night. What do you guys recommend?

I'd try reposting this in the CrossPit forum, where all the MMA guys post. You might also try getting in touch with the guys at Brand X Martial Arts.

Re: Crossfit and MMA

What he said... Also, there's a premise in Crossfit (I think it's in the 'getting started' or the FAQ where it talks about it) than most Crossfitters are also actively involved in some sport, although that's certainly not a requirement. I know I'm involved in martial arts as well, and some days I substitute my MA class for the CF warmup, and go straight into the WOD after I get done.

Re: Crossfit and MMA

Dennis,

At this stage I tend to CrossFit on the days I'm not training MA, and it's working well for me.

With respect

Re: Crossfit and MMA

Dennis,

I have BJJ tues/thrus/sat and Krav Maga mon/wen/fri/sat.

I still follow the WOD's either in the morning on in the afternoons after BJJ or Krav (they end at 7:30pm).

If I'm tired I don't go to one of them or I may skip a WOD. Not a huge deal just don't make it a habit.

You really have to take into heart the saying "Your workout is our warmup". Which is exactly how I look at it. While anything I'm doing is usually taxing, nothing is as taxing as CF and I just go with it no matter what.

Re: Crossfit and MMA

I go to a Kempo class twice a week and I follow HQ wod's not a big deal. I am a little timid after "linda" but nothing else. It is fun to fight some guys who all they do is class and I love the challenge after a hard WOD. Your body will let you know when to cut back somewhere. For me it was running to and from work"3mi" It burned me out so I quit and my 5k time went up.
