First official dead-hang pull-up

Okay, so I actually pulled one last week, but I refused to count it until I did it again and proved to myself it wasn't a fluke. This morning, I pulled TWO singles! Started from a 1 sec. dead hang, pulled up to chin well over bar.

This is a huge deal for me. I've been working these religiously since January. When I started, I could jump up and hold myself at the top for about 20 seconds - that's it. I couldn't do partials, my negatives dropped fast and I couldn't move myself up from the hang position by more than an inch.

So yeah, I'd say CrossFit is working for me.

Right on!!!!!!! I'm hoping for the day that I can get one!
So, what exactly did you do to work up to them?
That is a BIG deal!!!

Re: First official dead-hang pull-up

GTG all the way. My office gym didn't have a pull-up bar until about a week ago, but the girl's locker room has a very sturdy shower rod. So 5 or 6 times a day, I'd run out back and do stuff. In my business suit. Yep.

I did holds at the top, slow negatives, jumping up partials, and partial pulls from the bottom. Just one thing per visit to the locker room so I didn't tire myself out. And I worked them in the WODs, using jumping, a gravitron, bands, etc.

Basically, I did as many different things as I could think of, without over-stressing my body. And it worked. Fast.

Good luck!
Melissa

Re: First official dead-hang pull-up

Thanks for the pointers!! There is a brace in our bathroom over the stalls that I'm trying to cushion a bit with duct tape, and then I will be GTG there too.

Video of pull-ups in a business suit, please

Great work! A couple more singles and you should start working the kipping pull-up. Just watch your numbers skyrocket after that. I'm not sure of your shower rod set-up, but that's probably not the place to do kipping PUs, nor do I think you'd want to do them in a business suit.

Re: First official dead-hang pull-up

I worked on kipping for the first time with Allison last weekend at CrossFit NYC. I made a good start of it, and she's a great coach. I pulled up with the top of my head to the bar once or twice, but that's as far as I got. We worked on it for 20 minutes, and my hand ripped about 2 seconds in. They are very tiring to learn.

I will not attempt to kip on a shower rod. Although I already have my story in place should it ever come crashing down on top of me.

Re: First official dead-hang pull-up

Oh do tell! I need to have a good one also... although I've let a few coworkers in on what I'm doing.
Just hope I don't kick someone as they walk into the bathroom! lol
