Re: New Deadlift PR

I'm curious how you'll approach this next time with the rounded back, Jodi - do you work submaximal at a weight that you know you can keep that back staight and hope to strengthen it. Or do you keep working at the maximal weight and eventually get strong enough not to curve the back but risk injury?

Thanks for the advice - very inspiring!

Re: New Deadlift PR

Tom, essentially it was just a lack of focus that caused her to lose her arch. When going for max weight, huge PR, nervous ... people have a tendancy to yank the bar hard and fast which usually causes the hips to shoot and/or back to round.

She'll practise this week with post-maximum loads - aka load 400 pounds and strain against it while keeping rock solid form. On Saturday, she'll go for another 1RM.

Thanks for the post-maximum loads advise. I will give that a shot before going for a 1RM next time...

Re: New Deadlift PR

Another little update!!!!!!

Pulled 270 for one rep today!! I hyperextended a bit (although it looks hardcore from this angle) but the good news is that my back did not round like it did when I pulled 260.

PS - this 256% of my bodyweight.

Re: New Deadlift PR

I'd better stop being speechless soon. She's gonna own that record by the end of February.

Very impressed.

Re: New Deadlift PR

Those are fabulous videos and helpful training advice given.

I have a problem with rounding my back under loads, but am not sure it is a focus thing in my case. In addition to the post-maximal load efforts keeping strict form, are there other ways to learn to maintain the back?

Great Job on the PRs Jodi and hopefully your provincial/state/national records
