Unfortunately, I can't prove a negative. I have NO DOUBT that O-Lifters have outstanding acceleration and leaping ability. I can tell you that nobody knows where that story of tests at any Olympics comes from. Even Fred Hatfield, who is the source usually cited in this legend, doesn't know where it came from. Here's the guy on DD who researched it, including his conversation with Hatfield:

Again, not dismissing the explosiveness of O-lifters, just this particular example. We're all entitled to our own opinions, but not our own facts.

That one of Dimas is one of my favorites. It looks like something out of the Matrix and you expect him to land on the ceiling.

The first time I saw the Hamman photo it was almost alarming. A guy that big, you wonder how many floors would fail on the landing.

Stephen, I can see where you are coming from, so fair enough. But of course those photo's do support the myth.

I did find a study though...but you have to pay for it...

Just to reiterate, I am not saying the jumping/accelerating ability is a myth. I'm saying studies taking place at the Olympics, in which O-lifters out-jumped the world's best jumpers and out-spritned the world's best sprinters, is almost certainly one.

Paging Dan John.
Dan John, please report to this thread.

He has a story about a kid doing squats (part of the O-lifts, not an O-lift unto itself) starting with a max of 400 and then jumping up and hitting the ceiling. I'm sure he has better examples and anecdotes.

Just a piece of OL trivia - Shane Hammon can do the splits.
