If you are working out in a big box gym trying to do pullups and the only pullup bar that they have is a small 1 inch diameter greasy bar, small sections of bicycle innertube wrapped around the bar give a fantastic hand grip.

basically cut a section of inner tube the same length as the width of your hand and cut the tube once lengthwise to give you a relatively flat piece of rubber that can wrap around the bar.
