% of nuts in daily calorie total

1st post, I did do a search on the nutrition board and didn't see what I'm looking for.

I am a recent cross-fitter. I have incorporated the CFWU into my workouts over the past few weeks. I did Nate yesterday for 7 rounds and then ran 3 miles in 22:35 b/c cardio is a focus of mine (competitive squash player, of all things).

Anyway, I have been trying to shift my diet in the zone direction. I have cut out most processed carbs with the exception of pasta and rice (sushi) occasionally. Finally parting with pretzels as snacking staple has helped me get leaner.

However, I find myself with major urges coming on, presumably sugar addiction driven, and OD on peanut butter sometimes.

short story long, I have incorporated almonds and peanuts in my diet, along with a lot more veggies/broccoli, to replace pretzels/crappy snacks. However, I may be eating too many almonds/peanuts now.

If I eat ~2,000 calories a day (2 - 2.5k) of which 400 calories is almonds and peanuts is that really weird/bad/off base? 20% of my caloric intake sounds like way too much to me when I say it out loud like this, so to speak. Is this too much fat to try and get leaner?

Thanks, I appreciate any insights

I think you are under the presumption that fat makes you fat. This is not true; too many calories make you fat. So eat all the almonds you want, as long as you burn more calories than you put in you will lean up.

I agree with Matt on this one.

Oh, and good to have another Crossfitter in the area. Will we be seeing you out at Motor City Crossfit for a visit?

Re: % of nuts in daily calorie total

If you are to the point in your diet where you are worried about one individual food then you have to look at the big picture. Don't focus on one meal or one snack. At the end of the day take a look at your cal intake and your ratios. If they are not inline with your goals adjust from there.
