Although I loved Gates of Fire, I hope this doesn't contribute to the slow but gradual fade-out that his following two books had. And on a subject like Alexander, I'll be aprticualry strict with him. Especially when he tries to do a first-person narrative!

I'm really looking forward to reading it though, and to seeing Stone's new movie! (My gut feeling is good for that one!)

Gate of Fire still stands as my favorite book! My copy is battered from rereading the best parts.

My Glorious Brothers, by Howard Fast, is a pretty good story too. It was reportedly Jonathan Netanyahu's favorite book. He's the guy that led the raid on Entebbe, and the sole Israeli military casualty. He was quite an amazing man. It's a pity that Maccabees doesn't show up in most Bibles.
