I don't know if others use this but I was peeling and cutting off my calluses for years and discovered if I use a dremel tool on low speed with the grinding wheel it works great! The sanding wheel is a little too agressive on soft areas but the grinding wheel seems to somewhat spare softer areas while being more agressive on the dry hard areas.
I keep the wheel moving so I don't get a burn but for me this works great. I thought I'd pass it on |

jeremiah - because if you let your callouses get out of control, they'll catch on things and get torn off involuntarily. keep them smooth.

In the past if I let my calluses get too thick they ripped into the meat of my hand, making my hands, not work too well. I just shaved them off with a straight razor, or as gross as it sounds chewed them off. My wife was not amused!
Even after grinding them I still have plenty of callus. Safe cracking is a long way off for me, although it sounds fun. |

I use a callous file almost daily. I try to keep them flat or even indented a little. If you do rip, medicated chapstick helps with healing and prevents cracking.
