Straps - I know, I know...

First off: I am a huge fan of NOT using straps, so please don't get me wrong. I haven't used them since my misguided years, and just use chalk for heavy DLs and some chin work. But that being said, Rip personally told me to start including heavy rack pulls in my routine with straps. I know, I know, I was shocked as well. But who am I to question him, right? I'll do it, and I'm sure I'll be stronger for it.

But, where the heck do I get decent straps like in the SS book? I did some searches on here and came up with nothing but anti-strap rants (most of which are totally justified). I could get some janky cloth ones from the store, or cut up the seatbelts in my gf's Volvo, but in a perfect world, someone could suggest some I can buy online for a decent price. I'll only use 'em for rack pulls, I promise.

Help? Thanks!

Anything by APT will suit you well.

Or:
For $14.00 plus shipping these are the most comfortable I have used. Wide and comfortable.

Spud Inc.

They will never need to be replaced.

Conveniently enough, I need to order the black foam roller from Elite as well. I'll check out APT also.

I don't have SS on me (lent it to a friend in need) or else I'd look this up, but doesn't Rip advocate simple straps of webbing? I seem to recall him saying pretty adamantly that loops suck and to just go with strips of cotton or webbing. If so, I'd just order some webbing from REI or strapworks.com. At <$1 a foot, it's amazingly cheap and will last until you start DLing semi's.

Yeah, he bags pretty hard on the loop types, which is why I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I didn't think of REI - maybe I should get some straps for slacklining while I'm at it. Hmm.

Oh, and I'm a long way away from semi's. For now.

www.ironmind.com (safe link to an equipment company) generally has VERY high quality stuff ("bombproof" is the usual descriptor), including straps. I'm not sure if they are the "loop" kind or not, though.

I ordered a pair each of the 2 kinds they sell at the Wichita Falls online store. I won't be home for another month so I haven't tried them yet. I was looking at the Ironmind stuff too.

This kind of strap is more suitable for Oly lifts as they loosen as you receive the bar on a clean. The kind of strap that loops through itself is not as kind.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. So which ones would you recommend John?

Re: Straps - I know, I know...

The Ironmind straps sre very strong. The material is however a little abrasive. If you are using them for heavy pulls and such they will cause some calluses on your wrists. My wrists are tattooed and I can really see the wear and tear!(sp) Another good choice that I have not used myself but have heard great things about are the straps from Spud Inc. They are supposed to be quite a bit mor supple than others and bombproof. Check them out at Elite FTS or South Carolina Barbell. Hope this helps.
