Power Max Rings V. Elite Rings

I'm looking to buy a couple sets of either the Power Max or Elite rings. Can anybody offer any insight as to the advantages/disadvantages of each. I'm a beginner just learning technique and I would like to be able to transport them to the gym/park so being able to put them up and take them down easily is a must. Thanks for your thoughts.

I like the feel of the elite rings better. The Power max have this weird texture. The elite are also lighter, thus easier to transport.

I haven't tried the power max rings, but my elite rings are great. Light, strong, easy to rig and they're black. Love 'em.

I have's my take:

The elite are much much easier to hang and to change the length of the straps on. If you're going to be changing heights often they'd be my pick.

The powermax texture is very helpful in keeping the false grip for MU's so I like to have a pair of them hanging from the ceiling.

Re: Power Max Rings V. Elite Rings

I'm the guy that designed the Elite Rings and I definitely had portability in mind. They're lightweight and the mounting system allows you to throw the strap over a swingset or treelimb (or whatever is available) and then just run it back through the buckle. Even if the surface is out of reach, you can still mount the rings, so that is very helpful when you need to set them up quickly.
I hope this helps.
This is slightly off-topic, but I wrote an article for this month's CrossFit Journal on the Front Lever. It has a very detailed progression that I think CrossFitters will really like. I hope everyone gets a chance to read it.

Re: Power Max Rings V. Elite Rings

I haven't used Power Max Rings but I do love my Elite Rings. Everything Tyler said is true. I especially love the look on the rats at the gym when I take over the cable pull machine to mount my rings! The looks change from contempt, to curiousity, to awe once the figure out they can't do a thing on the rings that we can.

I'll vouch that I prefer Tyler's rings for setup, portability and feel. Powermax's texture really through me off. They almost seemed to big, but then again I got smaller hands seeing as I'm gymnast sized.

Re: Power Max Rings V. Elite Rings

I've got both. The powermax are fine for everything. I take them to my client's homes; they're pretty simple to rig up once you figure out how best to adjust the buckles. The elite rings are great too, and I like the feel of them more on pulling exercises because they seem to feel a little stickier. The powermax is a much harder plastic feel. Either is a great investment.

Re: Power Max Rings V. Elite Rings

We have both at CrossFit Cleveland, plus a Home Depot version I whipped up. Paul and Nancy prefer the PowerMax rings and Staci and I prefer Tyler's. Paul can do multiple muscle-ups and I'm still jumping, I think it's the rings I'm using:stir:

I take the home-made rings with me when I travel, mainly because if I lose or forget them it won't be a big loss.

Does anyone know if Tyler offers a CF discount?
