Muscle Driver 24Kg Kettlebell Review & Pictures

Recieved my 2nd MD KB on 01.12.10 in the form of 24Kg (1.5 pood)

I bought my 1st KB back in Feb 09, a 16Kg (1 pood)

I am only using the 24Kg for swings & front squats. I snatch, clean & press the 16Kg, so I haven't been able to experience the handle of the 24Kg as much as the 16Kg.

I had made my decision based on price, for the most part, when I purchased the 16Kg, but there were many positive comments here on the boards about MD as well.

When I first received the 24Kg and placed it next to the 16Kg, I was struck by the differences between two KB's that are 10-12mos different in purchase date.

I'm not unhappy with the 24Kg, but I do see noticable differences between the two. Posting these pictures with the hope that they will assist another make an informed purchase.

I've never had any problem with any of my MD KB's.

Once again, i don't dislike the MD KBs. I am just struck by the differences btwn them and wanted to let others see.

Maybe they were made at 2 different facilities. That would explain the difference in paint quality.

I don't get it. What's the problem? Is there one? The 24kg has a nicer finish, it's good to hear that they are improving their product (hence the v2 in their advertising of the grey KBs). If you wanted handles and everything to be the same size, I would think you'd go for the pro series, which is what I plan on doing.

Re: Muscle Driver 24Kg Kettlebell Review & Pictures

A friend, who is a 1 yr+ CF'er, agrees that the finish is nicer on the 24Kg. He believes the rougher texture is preferable.

To be clear, though I have written these same words above, I have no problem w/ MD Series 2 Gray KBs. But one would need to be optically challenged not to note a difference between the two.

Good to hear that more than one person is of the opinion that MD is moving in the right direction!

Yeah, have fun with 'em. They do say on the site that these are "version 2," so I think a few differences are to be expected. Can't wait to order up a 1 and 1.5 pood "pro" version. Hope they aren't cancelling them, seems like there are a few less selections than last time I looked...

Re: Muscle Driver 24Kg Kettlebell Review & Pictures

Jacob,

They have been version 2 since at least 2008, maybe earlier.

Have you noticed the Pro KBs only go to 24Kgs? I hope to work my way up to a 32Kgs, which I why I opted for the V2.

The website also states that all of the V2 have a "1.5 inch diameter handle", which happens to be the same as the Pro series. Now, while I was unable to measure diameter and instead measured circumference, if we divide the circumference by pi (3.14) we see that, while close to 1.5" (and close enough for me), neither of these KB handles are 1.5" diameter.

I am happy with my KBs and will buy from MD again, but I have believed since I got hooked into these "intranets" that when I have read detailed posts by other (nerds/geeks/gear-tards) it has helped me make a decision based on something other than the vendor's tiny thumbnail photo.

MD produce a high quality, single cast KB for a competitive price and that is why I have two of them.

I just realized I need to weigh them!

(While checking the MD site for quotes, I noticed they are starting to carry York KBs... Wonder what that says about the future?)
