Robert,
SPEED is exactly what I'm looking for. Whats cool about the area I'm moving into is that the entire City is also tracked with miles of paved bike trails (better kept then the streets in fact). And I wont be living far from the track either, so it would make for a good short distance commuter. I personally have a vile disdain for long duration efforts. While I generally do farely well when I do them its not something I would say I enjoy. So a sprint bike is ideal for my character as well as the distances I plan to ride. The Pista with mods is looking like it might be a good buy! My concept is if I can't get there fast (unless I'm driving or flying) its not worth going!!!

Then all I can say is, "Ciao, Bianchi!"

i just picked up an old Schwinn Super LeTour as my next fixed gear project.
Don; a fixed gear is a great commuting bike, no messy derailures to get gunked up, light & fast quiet as a church mouse. i love mine, i do have a front break but rarely use it.

As long as you know what you're doing fixies are OK for commuting - loads of cycle couriers use them.
