Dec 5 Nutrition Cert Update
Not sure why the earlier thread was closed - was something wrong?
Anyway, just a quick update - Dr Barry Sears will be the presenter for the nutritional certification on December 5th. Not trying to stir anything up, just making sure anyone going to it is up to date with latest info for the weekend. |

Re: Dec 5 Nutrition Cert Update
The moderators don't want things to get out of hand with these discussions, which is understandable.
I appreciate their efforts, which they provide for free, but there is good discussion to be had. Myself, and others, wish that they would wait to see if things ACTUALLY get ugly before stomping on a tread. In short, any respectful disagreement with HQ, or respectfully talking about people who do, should not be banned, which is what it looks like in some cases right now. |

Re: Dec 5 Nutrition Cert Update
There is a thread in the Affiliates section. Since these are the people with actual skin in the game, this makes sense.
Net, net: CrossFit HQ has done many hundreds of Certifications---they are probably approaching thousands, if they haven't reached that mark already-- involving tens of thousands of people. When you train that many people you have to develop a standardized pedagogy. In any realm of human endeavor, there is room for multiple opinions. This does not mean they all need to be adopted. A lot of opinions have gone back and forth, but the simple reality at the end of the day is that there are thousands of gyms out there oriented around ideas that originated here, and all of them are free to train how they please. Barry Sears, I would suggest, very definitely qualifies as a nutrition expert. He was a biochemist at MIT, and made key advances in AIDS treatment, prior to his developing a diet intended to help him not die young of a heart attack, like many in his family had. When the smoke clears--and it already is--I think we will realize that, on balance, this will be a positive for everyone involved. |
