MIKKO & Finnish Bootcamp?

Heard rumblings on mainsite / Twitter about the Europeans in the top 16 doing sometype of "Bootcamp" as a part of their training before the games. Any truth to this? Does anyone know about the training methods they used?

I think this could be the next step in the evolution of CF, if the methods are outside of what we are used to in our programming.

Re: MIKKO & Finnish Bootcamp?

The Icelanders, Annie and Sveinbjörn, did Boot Camp.

Boot Camp is different from CrossFit in the way that its workouts are much longer in duration and much more body weight focused. - Exactly the opposite of what seems to be going on in the CF world.

I don't think Boot Camp is the next step, I just think Sveinbjörn and Annie are phenomenal athletes, and I can guarantee that if they had been doing CrossFit for the past year instead of Boot Camp, they would have done even better.

Re: MIKKO & Finnish Bootcamp?

Judging from her competitor profile picture, it looks like Annie is a pole vaulter. Is this true?
Pole vaulters are incredibly underrated in terms of athletes who possess overall fitness.

Re: MIKKO & Finnish Bootcamp?

I tried checking out the bootcamp website (bootcamp.is , wfs, at least what I can understand) but I couldn't really get anything from it because there's no english translation.

I found these on youtube. Julius, do you know if these videos are from that same program?

I imagine they'll soon conquer muscle-ups, and will be a force to contend with next year.

Actually, you can't guarantee that. They beat a whole bunch of people who did do Crossfit for the last year.

Re: MIKKO & Finnish Bootcamp?

IMO nothing will kill CF faster than the "we have the only way" / "us vs. them" mindset. There have been several things said on the mainsite that smack of this attitude (not in this thread). I think many are uncomfortable that our favorites did not do so well and so many from across the aisle did. Hopefully I am being paranoid and its just the few...and not the many.

Coach has said over and over that if there is something better out there that we would use it. I can think of nothing better for the continued success of the CF program than to stay true to that statement. We as a community need to stay flexible to new ideas that "increase human performance".
