Re: Whoa--can't type CrossFit in all lower case!
Huh, I never noticed that... I just posted something in the medical forum and I'd typed it all lower case, because I was quoting what I'd typed as a search parameter. Looking at my post, it did the same thing.
Makes sense, CFHQ is (rightly) proud of their brand, it's not a tough bit of code to make sure it's always displayed correctly. In the spirit of experimentation: CrossFit So, the above was originally typed with a "c" and "f" all other letters uppercase. One cycle through the preview function corrected it to the official format. |

"CrossFit"
(CrossFit) special character enclosure doesn't seem to affect it, either. |

Re: Whoa--can't type CrossFit in all lower case!
We should be clear, this is an experimentation with challenging the complexity of the text filter, not a bashing of the brand we all love. I say this only so that we don't all get banned by the mods, or something.
If we're going to keep playing, we should probably mention what we'd actually typed before the filter got ahold of it. CROSS FIT CROSS_FIT C ROSSFIT Looks like it's a basic ASCII character code test. Upper and lower case letters and all other printable characters, to a computer, are different entities, each with its own numeric value. For instance, "A" is 1000001 and "a" is 1100001. So, the filter must test for all combinations of "CrossFit" by character code, and when it detects it flips it to match the approved format. If you throw in characters which aren't part of the word (a space counts as a printable character) the filter fails. The Powers That Be might want to add a test for a space character in there, so if someone typoes "CrossFit" as I did above, the filter will still detect and correct it. This is probably as far as this thread can go... ![]() |

Yeah, it even seems to do it within a URL (originally typed all lowercase), it might also be a good idea to have the filter test for the leading characters which define a link, to avoid this problem. |
