Where do you buy the basic T's and gym shorts of yesteryear?

It used to be easy to find good quality, basic cotton T's and gym shorts at local retailers. Not stylish, just clothes that are functional and durable for workouts. Lately finding these simple items is like searching for the holy grail. Everything seems to be either “hi tech” fabric, thin cotton or long and baggy.

So I am curious: where do you buy the basic T's and gym shorts of yesteryear and do you have any preferred manufacturers?

Um. For women you really can't go wrong with Soffee shorts and a regular tshirt, if you must. Soffee shorts are usually less than $10 at any sporting goods store. Not sure what the equivalent is for guys though.

Fruit of the loom or Hanes undershirts. They come in different colors. A pack of 3 will run you like $8. You can get t-shirt, sleeveless shirt, and A-shirt (aka wifebeater) styles.

Try Walmart and Target. Also Sports Authority usually has that kind of stuff way in the back.

Do you wear these retro gym shorts over sweat pants? Are you also looking for terry cloth head and wrist bands?

An amazon.com search for "retro gym shorts" came up with some possibilities.

Old Navy, but you have to wait for the sales. This past weekend I got t-shirts for $4 each.

You can wear a shirt while crossfitting?

I'd also like to find some good shorts, my favorite are some long-style running shorts that I can't remember where I got, and actual running shorts are way too expensive. Generally, though, Kohls often has pretty cheap sport clothing.
