National Poetry Month

I'm pretty sure there exists a thread about poetry already, but I couldn't find it in a search. We're halfway through April--National Poetry Month--and I thought maybe we could all share some of our favourites here. If you'd like, it might be cool to share a little blurb of why it means something to you. Certainly not required.

They don't have to be fitness/health related, but I thought I would start with one that is. This goes out to all the health practitioners (including those in training). I was born two months prematurely, and some really good doctors and nurses kept me alive when I shouldn't have made it:

Ah...National Poetry Month again. That reminds me...I need to call my uncle up in Nantucket.

Re: National Poetry Month

this is my favorite poem from when i was a kid:

The Turkey Shot Out Of The Oven

The turkey shot out of the oven
and rocketed into the air,
it knocked every plate off the table
and partly demolished a chair.

It ricocheted into a corner
and burst with a deafening boom,
then splattered all over the kitchen,
completely obscuring the room.

It stuck to the walls and the windows,
it totally coated the floor,
there was turkey attached to the ceiling,
where there'd never been turkey before.

It blanketed every appliance,
it smeared every saucer and bowl,
there wasn't a way I could stop it,
that turkey was out of control.

I scraped and I scrubbed with displeasure,
and thought with chagrin as I mopped,
that I'd never again stuff a turkey
with popcorn that hadn't been popped.

I just talked to my brother in Boston Mass.

Sounded like stormy weather up there.
