In one of the update shows they mentioned that Khalipa had a dedicated endurance coach over the last year and had been mixing in 15+ mile runs into his training. Looks like it's paid off.

I think event times have been bumped back a little. Mens Burden run was 15 minutes late.

That for sure is paying off. You can't come in and compete in these kind of events only doing 10 minute barbell metcons all the time.

On a workout like this it's ALL pure aerobic power base. Khalipa is going to kiss his endurance coach because that engine is carrying him all the way through the games right now.

I think we're going to see training for the top athletes change a lot this year now and some of these guys are going to drop the weight they put on. IMO the games are finally well balanced. It's so good this year. The burden run, along with all the workouts, has totally flipped the field and exposed everyones weaknesses. I'm loving the games this year. I'm glad grundler is still announcing. This announcing team is good.

Re: 2013 Open, Regionals and Games Thread

Well they are looking to supposedly crown the world's fittest so you need to test for what they define as fitness. Work capacity (ie doing stuff/moving loads) across broad time and modal domains. The best Crossfitters have the best "Fran" times etc.

I was watching Khalipa this year and thought he looked ready to go. So far he has done well. Be interesting to see where he is standing at the end of the day.

Past year's cuts have really favored Rich as a lot of folks who could flip things in a single event were eliminated. Plus this year they aren't just testing barbell efficiency and Crossfit skills but looks like work related stuff, which is what it should be. So far I am really liking it. Also testing max clean and jerk is a good one as it is far less technical than the snatch.

Agree about all those people who seem to have neglected going long and building that aerobic base. I was just saying something about it the other day.........

So far in four events you are in the 10-15 minute range (swim), 30-40 minutes (burden run), 1.3-1.5 hours (row), 7-8 minutes (2K row)

Coming up is a sprint. MOst everyone should be good with this, it'll come done to skills.

He could, it will depend on a lot of variables still to come. Rich is a very capable athlete, I wouldn't count him out until he is mathematically eliminated.
