Weight Gain after working out

Does anyone notice temporary weight gain (1 to 2 pounds) after working out... lasting a day or so?

Re: Weight Gain after working out

Yes. I think it may have to do with water retention in the muscles due to the recovery process. I could be utterly wrong about that, though.

Hmm! I only weigh myself after working out - perhaps I'd be less depressed if I weight myself before!

Re: Weight Gain after working out

More specifically... after a long run. Besides crossfit, I am an endurance runner. Sunday I ran 20 miles, and Monday I was 3lbs heavier ( obviously it is impossible to gain this amount of weight in bodyfat or muscle in one day). Just wondering if anyone knew the science behind this?

Can be glycogen storage - carbs plus water is fairly weighty.

Re: Weight Gain after working out

I have noticed the same thing. After 1 or 2 rest days my weight is consistently lower than the day after a tough workout. I always assumed that it was some edema due to the muscle breakdown/rebuilding.
