I think you are.

Why do you want to do 20 rep squats?

If you do 20RM squats on Friday and then want to continue on your already "hard enough" 3x5 sets on Monday, that's just gonna mess **** up.

Just do your program and when it stops working, consider a cycle of 20 rep squats.

FYI today I tried 1x20 at 72.5kg (hit 20 and 70kg on Monday)

...hit 16 and that was enough

I admittedly have never done 20 rep squats so it was dumb of me to say I wasn't underestimating them. I'm basically wanting to do them because I like to do hard things and I think they would be a fun (in a crossfit definition of the word) challenge that I really want to tackle. I guess I will save them until the end of this strength cycle. Thanks for the input guys!

As long as you have sufficient recovery and the squats being your main focus, I would give it a go. Getting your body out of a comfort zone= progress. Everything has a purpose, and change is good once in awhile!!!

In that case, I would advise against a 20 rep squat program as it is designed to primarily add mass.

I worked up to 20 x 265 and my 1 and 5 rm only moved up 5 lbs and that was

This was my initial thought.

Jamie, I basically figured that would be the case and I'm definitely not wanting to do a 20 rep program. I think I mis-worded this thread. Shoulda been can I do 20 rep squats every once in a while without interfering with my progress? Woulda been a bit wordy though.

That. They are a program. They don't work well with other programs.

would have to say it depends on goals of the program...
