Coming up on Toes during Thrusters/Cleans

Aight everybody I can't figure out what I am doing wrong here, everytime I do thrusters or cleans I want to come up on to my toes when I am in the down position. What can I do to help correct this b/c I know I can't get a good thrust unless my feet is flat on the floor what do I need to do to loosen up my achilles tendon which is what I think is causing this problem Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Everybody

Jake

Weight should mostly be on your heels like in Rippetoe's posterior chain squats.. basically push through your heels.

Could quite possibly a hamstring flexibility issue.

It could be hamstring flexability too I have terrible flexibility there but what exercises can you do to increase that other than static stretching I did that everyday over the summer and I thought my flexibility actually got a little worse.

I've been working through similar issues myself, including knee pain.

I picked up the Steve Maxwell - Joint Mobility DVD here (wfs):

It arrived fast and I'm enjoying the routines. Too early to speak to the results but I have a very good feeling about it.

Try lifting barefoot, or just in your socks.

Someone showed me this yesterday, and it seems to help; if nothing else, you can know pretty easily if you can wiggle your toes when your weight is properly back.

Do you feel like you're going to fall back? Maybe having some O-lifting shoes with the elevated heels would help so you didn't feel like you were leaning backwards when you put your weight on your heels. It's probably more what everyone else said. I just wanted to add a different oppinion.

I come up on my toes too, but only during the extension phase.

Re: Coming up on Toes during Thrusters/Cleans

Not sure if this will help but I found that working on my overhead squat fixed a lot of issues with other similar movements (especially pushing from the heel ) I do them almost everyday now (just with pvc) to get and keep the feel. It's improved every aspect of my squatting movements ie.. thrusters, back squats etc.. It also has help with my flexibilty to a small degree as well.

Re: Coming up on Toes during Thrusters/Cleans

i suffered this too. took me two months practicing squats every single day to beat it. i put just did a set of ten every hour or so until i could sit in the very bottom and really feel the different muscle strains throught the range of movement. i dont think its a problem with footwear, (unless you are wearing high heels) i definately think its a problem with flexibility. your hip flexors, hamstring and glutes are probably very tight like mine were.

i would reduce your poundage for thrusters and cleans to broomstick or emty bar and do these 4-5 times a week along with doing body squats throughout the day.

this definately helped me, i usually get comments from non-Cfit gym goers about how clean my squat is...funny because i couldnt even body squat when i started.
