First attempt!

Well here was my first attempt at something!
I am 44M, just completed round 5 of 6 chemo for leukemia. The last bit of real exercise I done was back in 2010 when I done 60 days of the video Insanity, which I lost 25 pounds and could actually do a pushup at the end of it. For the last couple of years I have been playing ball hockey in the winter months with the 19 year olds for 4 hours a week, what hell.
So I have been lurking around this website for a bit now and posted for the first time a couple of days ago, thinking I really need to get back in shape. Since I started chemo back in March I actually gained 14 pounds almost back at the heaviest I have ever been, currently 238. So between chemo and eating more, laid back all summer the weight piled on.

I partly completed Angie today
40 pushups
40 chair assisted pull ups
40 squats
40 sit ups
2 km jog and 1 km walk...half of it was against a 60 km wind(got to make it sound harder then it is...lol)

I wanted to start out kinda of light and see where it takes me, but I will ramp it up a little when I get a few days in. I found it all hard except the squats, which I could do more. So the next training day I will try and get more in.
My goal is to get back to a sensible weight, lose some of the % of body fat and be able to give my two cents worth to someone like me now in about a year.

So anyone got any thoughts and anything else that I should be doing?
Jeff

Re: First attempt!

Congrats on fighting the leukemia. Keep fighting.

Do you have access to weights? squat rack, bumper plates?

Oh and welcome to the boards.

Re: First attempt!

I have some dumbbells, bar, bench and about 110lbs that can be put on the bar and some weighted dumbbells, thats about it. So I can get what I need when I figure out what I need.
Oh I am using the track on my garage door for pullups....haha

Start squatting and pressing and deadlifting. I don't know what you can lift, so post up. Lifting burns alot of cals in the lifts and the recovery, and once you start building muscle you will have to burn more cals just to maintain.
