Unhappy Being sore

Just recently did the fight gone bad 6 with some friends. We were talking about being sore after workouts. I don't really get sore at all. Am I doing something wrong? Am I not working out hard enough?

Being sore is not an indicator of a good workout, progress is. Are you making progress?

The only thing that makes me sore the next day is when I introduce a new movement. Otherwise I don't push to the point I'd be sore for more than a couple of hours.

+1 to both of the above gentlemen. I am only sore if my diet sucks. And progress is a plenty these days

Soreness is relative, and I am not sure you can pin it down to "if I am eating well," or "if I'm well-rested," then you won't be sore. I know for certain types of work - I will be sore the next day, and maybe for a few days.
Maybe it is because I am in my 40s, but I can get sore just doing heavy squats. Case in point - last week I did the following (copied from my WOD log):

Went in for some 7x5 squat work last night -
Warm up:
10 x 45
5 x 135
5 x 225
working sets:
5 x 275
5 x 295
5 x 315
5 x 335
5 x 315
5 x 295
5 x 275
I did that work on the evening of the 16th and I was sore (glutes, hams and quads) until the evening of the 20th.

I can also get incredibly sore just with bodyweight work. I know that I will be sore for a few days whenever I do 20+ rounds of Cindy.

I don't think being sore is an indication of anything...

I used to do crossfit, then I do a boxing class later that day... the following day I would be just fine.

I stopped crossfit for a few months, and now I get sore after every session, even though I'm weaker and slower.

I think it's just a matter of your body adapting.

If your friends are bragging about being sore then they probably think that soreness is an indicator of a great workout. It isn't. The only people I hear brag about soreness are weekend warriors at the gym. It's nothing to worry about. Just beat their times

Im 53 yrs old and am sore almost always now.A big difference as compared to just ten years ago.Im just used to it now because I keep doing what I love to do and what Ive been doin for the past 40 years or so ever since I got my first paperback book on weightlifting from my dads collection.I remember lamenting to a friend who is the same age as me while we were in judo class together and he said "Id be sore anyway so Im just going to keep doing what I like to do"..and I agree.I also remember my judo sensei who was giving a kata demo at 75 yrs old and he was having trouble in seiza positon because of his knees"Beats the alternative" he said.

Soreness can be caused by poor diet. Tell your friends to at least add fish oil. that has helped my soreness and inflammation substantially.

Soreness can come from many reasons. usually from things like training hard after a lay off/or new to exercise. Introducing new exercises, upping the intensity, heavy eccentric work, etc etc etc. The pain comes from micro damage done to the muscle fibres that then leak cell contents. the immune system then goes to clean this up and results in inflammation. As mentioned earlier fish oil should help with this as will propper diet. But in the end sometimes u get sore no matter what so time and rest is whats needed. But just cause u dont wake up sore doesn't mean it wasn't a good workout.
