I would like some advice on the achillies tendon. I have searched the boards, but can't find what I am looking for. Here's the problem. I have a re-occuring pain from time to time in my tendon, the area just above my heel and just below where the tendon connects to the calf. mainly in the lower region just above the heel. I had aquired the injury a year ago when I change the type and brand of shoes to run with and was running a lot of hills. The research I have done myself suggest that it is achillies tendonitits. I have went back to what works for me, have been using proper inserts in all of my footware to correct arch/overpronation problems, which seems to help. But every now and then, after a good run, it flares up a little bit. I can't seem to find any good info. on how to properly repair, if you will, this problem so I can continue to train and not be layed up. Thanks in advance for your help.

Ice massage and heel cups. And of course adequate stretching. Doing heel drops on a step work the best IMHO.

I had the same problem. I got a podiatrist to do my inserts, stopped walking for miles on concrete foot paths every day (changed jobs), gave up aerobics and concentrated on workouts which didn't stress or involve shocks to the lower legs.

Which is why Crossfit is great - short sprints if you have to run, or hard work on a rower equals no tendon stress.

BTW it gets worse as you get older - I am 54 and this first flared up when I was 44.
