Oh, the drama. If you don't know enough to put oil in your car every once in a while, your mechanic bill will be pretty big...if you don't know enough to eat well and not be obese, then your physician will have a lot of work to do.

We all have responsibility.

On this thread I'm seeing lots of drama, exaggeration, fear and the notion "everything is someone else's fault"...sort of sums up North America society.

Sure, that makes sense, but the trainee has no responsibility for their own health and well being? There's no concept of caveat emptor?

And that trainer's responsibility is different than CFHQ's

Sure. But a trainer giving a newbie a workout with 100 GHD situps is like a car dealer encouraging you to take your new Toyota to the track. And then telling you it's your own stupid fault when you damage it, and no your warranty won't pay.

Setting oneself up as an expert and taking money for that expertise implies at the very least a responsibility to not give advice that is dangerously bad.

I don't think so. We are not talking widgets or things that should go against common sense. We are talking about a particularly prescribed way of training that requires proper form to avoid injury. Athletes put their trust in the 'educated' professionals to train them properly. Most people could apply caveat emptor to the late night TV commercial that promises you'll lose 10 lbs a day but where is the common sense to sniff out a faulty OHS or the inherent ( IMO) danger in Kipping or 100 jumping pull ups ( my very first WOD! at the box.)

No, I'm not making his point, unless his point is really "No one heard of the word "rhabdo" before CrossFit". If that is his point, I respond "So what?", because understanding muscle damage due to exercise is more important than just knowing additional vocabulary.
