My shoulders hurt!

...both of them. They have gotten to the point where I just don't feel like exercising at all. It feels like the joint itself is hurting...or the tendons surrounding the joint (rotator cuff?). Perhaps it's arthritis after 20+ years of weightlifting (bodybuilding).
When I lay off weightlifting for a month or so the pain will pretty much go away unless I do something else strenuous like overhead painting, etc.. Then when I go back to the gym things will feel week to begin with, then I'll get stronger, then the pain gets unbearable again.

Is there anything I can do to maybe help strengthen my shoulders or am I just too old and should just give up the weights? Right now I'm not able to do any kind of shoulder workout.

Re: My shoulders hurt!

See a shoulder specialist to have yourself diagnosed.

Re: My shoulders hurt!

sounds like your shoulder sockets are shot, mmm poor cartilage or bursitis both of which requires a trip to the orthopedic doctor.

Re: My shoulders hurt!

I'm going to look around for a shoulder specialist. Last time I went to the ortho. X-rays didn't really show anything, but the P.A. who saw me wasn't well-versed in sports med. I don't think.

ask to see the md ... Always! You are paying for a doctor consult/ ms office visit. Most pa are not trained in sub specialty care. They do. The basic two year program and get hired.

Re: My shoulders hurt!

Shoulder dislocates... not the type with a PVC pipe, but with a kettle bell to strengthen the stabilizer muscles.

Martone swears by 'em... start here -http://www.tacticalathlete.com/tguarticle.htm (WFS)... it leads into the Turkish Get-up, but the initial part of the article is about dislocates.

Re: My shoulders hurt!

"Shoulder dislocates" certainly don't sound to friendly, but I'll try 'em.
I don't get a completely clear vision of them from the Turkish getup description - does anyone know of a video that I could view?
