Are Oly Shoes Worth Buying?

As my Chucks are reaching the end of their life I've been thinking about getting a pair of Oly shoes. I'm hoping someone can give me some insight as to whether they would be a worthwhile purchase for me. Here's a little info about me that might be pertinent:

-I don't lift outside of Crossfit and I my numbers aren't stellar, particularly in the Olympic lifts
-My power/Olympic lifting experience is all from Crossfit and I've been doing it for about a year and a half
-I don't have ankle or other flexibility issues to speak of

I've thought about getting these guys from Rogue (WFS)
http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-we...ting-shoes.php

Or these from Adidas (WFS) which have a lower heel (which kind of appeals to me)

Can anyone give me some advice, please?

Re: Are Oly Shoes Worth Buying?

In one word: YES

I use chucks for LBBS and O" shoes for HBBS, FS, Clean, OHS, Snatching and most importantly Jerking

Then Vibrams for everything else.

The advantages of O"lifting shoes will be very obvious the first time you use them. One of the best bit of kits you can buy if you want to improve your O"lifting

Once you do squats one time in Oly shoes you'll kick yourself for waiting this long. I don't lift outside of crossfit either and I'm awaiting my second pair of oly shoes.

I'd go w/ those Adidas or the new reeboks.

I would say get the Reebok's because they seem flexible enough to do other WOD activities...or at least they are marketed that way. Although you may be sacrificing some heel height or hardness, something has to be given up to make the shoe more capable for CrossFit...

I would recommend not getting the Reeboks for exactly those reasons, along with the fact that they're $150. If I'm going to lift heavy I want something stable and solid, and if I'm running or jumping I want something light and minimalist. By trying to be both, the Reeboks seem to fit neither side well.

I would go here (WFS) and get a pair of VS Athletics lifting shoes for $75 then a pair of NB Minimus or something like that for days that aren't pure lifting. Lifting shoes will last forever if you don't wear them out doing silly stuff like box jumps and doubleunders and running in them.

The VS Athletics have a 1.5'' heel height, so they're not for everyone. I only do Front Squats in my VS Athletics now.

Charlie, if you haven't already been here, check out this site:

Re: Are Oly Shoes Worth Buying?

Yeah I actually took mine to the cobbler shop and had the heels shaved down a bit, but you're still not going to find too many values that can match VS.
