Re: 2 UFC 74 fights...

I was very happy for GSP's win!

UFC had actually announced an event in Montreal - they announced it last year. It was supposed to take place in April of 2007, but things fell apart and they were unable to hold the event there. I would imagine they'll try again in the future.

Dana White mentioned at post-event press conference that they try to make it happen as early as feb or march 2008.

Sweeeeet! That's the least that should happen to him.
A temporary suspension would be nice also.

Re: 2 UFC 74 fights...

Very disappointed that the video was removed...I was wondering all through the night where all of that blood came from. Otherwise, good night of fights, liked seeing Koscheck (sp?) get beat, especially on the ground. Though the head-to-nose impact was mostly luck, you have to give Randy respect for once again picking apart the game of a younger, larger opponent.

Highlight of the evening? Roger Huerta's use of the screen in his victory over Alberto Crane...that was just a hilarious, but ingenious, use of the technology inherent in big-time MMA. Awesome stuff

Alberto Crane was an embarrassment out there, IMO. There's no excuse for the lack of preparation that his poor level of strength and conditioning showed. If he had been properly prepared he would have been able to sub Huerta.

Amen! It's like the guy was transplanted from the 90's, or had never even seen the UFC. Crazy.

I agree completely...makes the concept of "BJJ World Champion" seem a bit overrated, huh?

Re: 2 UFC 74 fights...

Not at all Jessie!! One fighter's bad performance does not invalidate the credentials that come w/ one of the biggest achievements in combat sports.

I didn't see the fight and was unfamiliar w/ the fighter in question, but looking at his record, it speaks for itself. He is 8-1, finishing 7 fights w/ submissions (including a crucifix & a omoplata, neither of which are common in MMA) and only going to a decision one time against the tough Javier Vasques.

There is soooooo much that goes into fighting, specially at this level, that who knows what was going on w/ him during/prior to the fight. Not to mention that it was his first fight in the pressure-cooker-UFC-stage, and against a fighter like Huerta.

"BJJ World Champion" is by no means a overrated concept. It has never been, and w/ the current growth of the sport, it will only hold a stronger & stronger meaning. Just think about all the other countless BJJWC fighters that display phenomenal performances in MMA...

Re: 2 UFC 74 fights...

Randy busting Gonzaga's nose might have been luck but that was an awesome slam non-the-less. And isn't that the point of taking your oppenent down heavily like that? When I saw him pick Gonzaga up I was stoked. Way to go Randy!

And GSP rules. I can't wait to see his next title shot in early 2008, whenever it gets sorted out.

He did well at the U.S. Grappling World Team Trials a few months ago. A friend of mine competed against him, said he was strong. Wonder what happened . . .

And Huerta using the video monitor to land those elbows was possibly the best thing ever.
